IMU Charity Bazaar

Hey people, on the 3rd of December, there's going to be a charity bazaar held in IMU in a large scale. In conjunction with IMU's 20th Anniversary, this charity bazaar is aimed at raising funds for 6 homes namely: Rumah Love & Care Kajang, Rumah Shalom, Precious Children Home, Yayasan Sunbeam Home, Persatuan Kebajikan HOPE Worldwide KL, Association of Social Services and Community Development of Gombak District, Selangor (PSPK).

ALL faculty members will be involved with either selling food, doing arts & craft, have events such as adult yoga, kids yoga, and a performance "Changing of Masks" etc.

I'll be selling the booklet with coupons (to be used during the charity bazaar). One booklet has 10 coupons, and is priced at RM10 per booklet. And my task is to sell at least 50 of the booklets.

IMU's target is to raise around RM15,000. I really hope our batch can participate in this huge event and help reach that target! You're more than welcome to bring your family members along too for this event!

I'll be selling the coupon booklets on Friday (results day). Please comment on this post if you're interested, or contact me through 012-6592100.

Examination feedback from mentors

ME111, here's an announcement from Simran (President of SRC) for those who have failed their EOS: -

Please inform your batch mates that those who failed in their recent EOS 2 examination, can obtain detailed examination feedback from their mentors.

Their mentors will be able to have look at their examination papers and provide them with feedback on areas which they should improve on while preparing for their re-sit.

Please ask them to use this opportunity wisely to improve, study hard and good luck to them for their re-sit.

I was told about this, today morning by prof Judson's PA, Ms Merrina.

Thank you.

"Life in Scotland" by Prof Ian Brown from University of Glasgow

Hey everyone,

There's another talk on Monday regarding "Life in Scotland" and specifically University of Glasgow for your PMS-ers who are planning to head to Scotland. The talk would include stuff about the Medical curriculum in Glasgow, the student life there and so on.

Date : 14 Nov 2011, MONDAY
Time : 12:30 – 1:30pm
Venue : LT 1
Topic : Life in Scotland: University of Glasgow
By : Professor Ian Brown

Prof Ian Brown is a visiting lecturer from University of Glasgow. He has been giving my batch a couple of Gastrointestinal System pathology lectures. He would be leaving soon if I'm not mistaken, hence we have scheduled for him to give a talk since University of Glasgow is one of the PMS universities you can transfer to.

Alumni Talk (TJU)

Hey everyone,

There's going to be a special guest coming to IMU this Friday. He has sat in the same lecture theatres, walked the same halls, and stressed over the same tables as all of us! And now, he's a Thomas Jefferson graduate, specializing in surgery at John Hopkins.

He'll be here this Friday, 11th November to show you how he did it, his experience living in the States, and maybe he'll even share some tips on being a good medical student.

So for those you're eyeing to go to the States or are just interested in surgery or life as a professional healthcare physician, you'll definitely want to hear what he has to say!

Date : 11 Nov 2011
Time : 12:30 – 1:30
Venue : LT 1
Topic : Knowledge Sharing: The Journey of IMU ALUMNI from a medical student in to a surgeon at John Hopkins.
By : Dr Lum. Ying Wei, Assistant Professor Department of Surgery, Division of Vascular Surgery and Endovascular Therapy

Thanks.

Student Lounge

Dear Students of IMU,

The SRC and SSD are glad to inform you that with effective 3rd November 2011 the Student Lounge Opening Hours will be extended to 2am. This is only applicable to Thursday’s, Friday’s, Saturday’s and Sunday’s. As for the remaining days, the Student Lounge will close at 12am.

This arrangement is only for a trial period of ONE MONTH from Thursday, the 3rd of November until Sunday, the 4th of December. We still have to cross a few obstacles before this arrangement is made permanent. If we are able to follow the criteria during this trial period, then the Student Lounge will be permanently open until 2am on the four days as stated above.

The criteria are as listed below:

1) The Student Lounge will only be open until 2am on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
2) There must not be any damage to the equipment in the Student Lounge.
3) Only IMU STUDENTS are allowed to enter the Student Lounge especially on weekends.
4) Students should walk safely while walking back to Vista or their cars after 12.00 am onwards until 2 am and should not be harmed in any way while walking back during the trial period.

If any of these criteria are not adhered to during the trial period, this TEMPORARY arrangement will not be allowed to be made permanent and students will not be able to enjoy the benefits of extended Student Lounge opening hours.

So, students of IMU, the SRC has once again listened to your concerns and have acted upon them. Also I would like to stress on the importance on student safety once you guys leave the Student Lounge from 12am onwards, since it’s the main concern of the SRC and the SSD while agreeing to make this change and allow the trial period. Please try
to travel in packs or groups when leaving and STAY SAFE.

Thank you and have a great time everyone!

Cheers,
Simran
